Search £250+

The cost of a search depends on what the invention or idea encompasses, and its complexity. As a rough guide the search fees will range from £250-£450, depending on complexity of the search, and therefore the length of time it takes to complete. We will let you know the price for your invention or idea on application.

Reasons to have a patent search include:

  • To find out how new the invention is.

  • To get a better knowledge of the prior art. This can help us position the invention in the patent application.

  • Where the inventor has a broad idea but not much knowledge as to how to put the idea into effect, a search can help by providing details of how others have done similar things in the past.

  • It can occasionally stimulate invention. Sometimes the inventor has an idea which is more like a problem to be solved rather than a solution (the invention). Seeing how people have tackled problems in the relevant area can lead to the inventor finding his or her own solution. So, in these situations we can even assist in determining what, in patent terms, the invention really is.
