Copyright a Logo
Copyright protects logos, graphic designs, drawings, and photographs. For new businesses that may not be ready to trademark or register designs then it is useful to secure proof of its creation by using our copyright registration service.
Why register copyright?
To be able to prove the date on which the logo was first created for you. The creator of a logo gets automatic copyright in it. To stop someone using an identical or similar logo - on their website say - you would need to prove they copied your logo. They could argue you copied theirs. So if you copyright the logo by registering it you collect solid evidence about your logo upfront before any problems arise. Such evidence would be acceptable in a court of law. Without evidence it would be time consuming and expensive to sort out disputes over rights to the logo. Your rights would seem less strong to whoever had copied your logo and therefore your chances of a negotiated settlement would diminish.
Note that contrary to popular myth it is not enough to simply post a copy of the logo to yourself. This is NOT suitable evidence for a court of law. Using our service gives you a Statutory Declaration prepared by us for you to swear before a solicitor or commissioner of oaths local to you (swearing an oath costs £5). You then have peace of mind in knowing you have better protection against those who might claim that you copied their logo design.
If you did not create the logo yourself you will also need to copyright in the logo assigned to you.
