Registering Designs

To protect the shape of products, surface designs, or packaging, get-up and packaging (whether two- or three- dimensional designs).

Registration is available for designs which have been publically available for less than 12 months, and gives the owner powerful exclusive rights.  This is an effective way of securing protection for graphics, logos, website layouts and many other types of design.

Design registration is also important to consider whenever a new product is being devised, because design is so important to a product's mass appeal.  Just think of the iPod or Dyson vacuum cleaner.
